Quietly Becoming: The Art of Subtle Growth through Self-Discovery Life Coaching
When we hear people talk about growth we can feel like it needs to be a bold, transformative shift from one place to another. We talk about breakthroughs and defining moments, and yes this does happen but they are part of a much longer, quieter journey. Growth often unfolds gradually, through small changes that add up over time, so when you feel this breakthrough or defining moment - the small shifts you’ve been making have allowed that to happen.
In this blog, I want to expand on this idea of growth not always being obvious, how it often happens in the quiet moments, and why it’s so important to trust the process. By recognising and embracing this subtle kind of growth, we can learn to appreciate the journey rather than be constantly searching for the next big change.
We often miss these subtle shifts because they don’t demand attention. They happen in the background, in the spaces between big decisions and major events. But just because growth isn’t obvious doesn’t mean it isn’t powerful. The most lasting transformations are often the ones we grow into rather than try to fit into.
When I think about the changes I’ve made in my life, they didn’t suddenly happen. The shifts emerged when I paused and listened to what was stirring beneath the surface. These moments are where we allow ourselves to evolve, to plant seeds, to nurture them slowly and to trust that they will bloom in their own time.
The Power of Stillness
We live in a world that celebrates action and movement. Productivity is prioritised, and we’re often measured by how much we get done in a day. But there is something so valuable about taking time out to pause and think. When we allow ourselves to be still, we create room for clarity. We begin to see patterns we hadn’t noticed before and understand emotions that had been buried under busyness. This is where true, sustainable growth happens - not in the rush to get somewhere, but in the willingness to sit with where we are.
Trusting the Process
It’s natural to want immediate results. We look for signs that we’re on the right path, some tangible proof that what we’re doing is going to be worth it. But growth doesn’t always offer instant gratification and as we’ve discussed is often not seen. Just like a seed doesn’t sprout the moment it’s planted, our own transformations take time. Trusting the process means embracing patience. It means believing that the small steps, the quiet shifts and the seemingly uneventful days are all part of something bigger. It’s about recognising that even when we can’t see progress, it doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.
Embracing the Journey
Have you heard the phrase or even said these words to yourself “When I get there it will…” or “Once I’ve done this I’ll be…”, part of growing isn’t just about reaching that outcome or noticeable change but learning to appreciate the journey. What if we found joy in the process, in the little moments that make up our days? Growth isn’t just about reaching an end goal - it’s about who we become along the way. So if you’re in a season where things feel slow or stagnant, where it seems like nothing big is happening, maybe that’s okay. Maybe this is the part where things are taking root in ways you can’t quite see yet and maybe that’s exactly the kind of growth that lasts.
